Skittles "Taste the Rainbow"
 

Skittles, the round fruit chews with an "s" insignia, are a widely favored confection. These tiny treats are a preferred munchie at the movies, falls out of vending machines around the world, and the "fun size" bags jingles in trick-treaters bulging bags of goodies every Halloween.

The red bag of "original" Skittles, is surely well-known to every candy lover, but there's more to this rainbow then just the original flavors. Learn more about the original five flavors and more obscure Skittles below:

Original Skittles

Skittles were first made in England, and brought to the United States in 1974. The original flavors, which today are packaged in red, include:

  • Strawberry (red)
  • Orange (orange)
  • Grape (purple)
  • Lime (green)
  • Lemon (yellow)
  • Did you know that in South Korea, Armenia, Taiwan and Australia the green Skittle flavor is apple instead of lime? Which flavor would you want the U.S. green skittle to taste like?

    Tropical Skittles

    In 1989, Masterfoods introduced a more exotic type of Skittle, Tropical Skittles which are packaged in a light blue bag. Each tiny tropical treat is a mélange of flavors making this confection an exotic mouthful. The Tropical flavors include:

  • Strawberry Starfruit (pink)
  • Pineapple Passion fruit (blue)
  • Kiwi Lime (green)

    Wild Berry Skittles

    Another type of skittle was introduced in 1990 - the Wild Berry Bag. This confection, which comes wrapped in a purple bag is bursting with a variety of berry flavors. Wild Berry flavors include:

  • Raspberry (blue)
  • Melon Berry (green)

    Carnival Skittles (Limited Edition)

    The bright yellow bag of Carnival Skittles appeared in 2006 as a limited edition type of kittle. The United States flavors include:

  • Licorice (red)
  • Bubble Gum (pink)
  • Cotton Candy (baby blue)
  • Candy Apple (light yellow)
  • Green Slushy (green)
  • Did you know in 2007 a version of the Carnival Skittles was launched in Australia? They were called Showtime Skittles and the bag included things like Jam Donut and Fairyfloss flavored Skittles!

    One of the newest bags of Skittles is the brown bag which contains the Chocolate Mix. This bag of Skittles, which was introduced at the All Candy Expo in 2007, blends the chewy goodness of Skittles with the delicious taste of chocolate. The mix includes:
